What is it about a holiday and resurfacing lovers? Why oh why do they randomly pop into our lives as if in some cosmic game of whack-a-mole? And acting as if all the reasons that caused them to become exes in the first place went “poof!”? Why?

I am not one to carry a grudge, so I always reply courteously when they inquire as to my well-being. I am never sure of their intent. It is often so bumbling and muddled these outreach attempts. There is never a direct “I want you back” or “I am sorry I made a terrible mistake” or “Could we just have sex one last time?”.

No…it usually is a seasonal greeting of some sort, a reference to a place or time we shared, and an indication of feeling longing in the vaguest, most gas lighting way possible. So when confronted, they can recover quickly with an “Ahem that wasn’t my intent, just seeing how you were…”

Which both parties know is sheer nonsense.

I was thinking of a list of automated replies I could pair to a contact list of exes would somehow not have their feeble attempts at re-kindle enter my consciousness and disturb my holiday zen-a-thon.
